Adiabatic cooling consists in spraying water drops which evaporate absorbing heat from the surrounding air: Approx. 690 W of cooling is provided for every 1L of evaporated water.
As 1 L/h of water can be sprayed by using as little as 10 W of electric power, the energy advantage is huge 690W cooling for just 10W power typical.
With today’s emphasis on energy efficiency whilst maintaining fresh air requirements, Air Handling systems often use heat recovery wheels or heat exchanger plates. During the winter these recover heat from the exhaust air and pre heat the fresh incoming air. In the summer the opposite can now be applied using adiabatic cooling to provide additional cooling benefits.
The exhaust air is cooled via a spray manifold, which creates a fine mist, evaporating and thus cooling the exhausted air at 690W per L water. This cooler air passes through the plate heat exchanger providing additional cooling to the fresh incoming air, providing significant energy savings!
Humifog and MCmultizone are the ideal products for adiabatic cooling of ducted systems and air handling units. |
